How Does Lead Collection Work?
Here’s how your chatbot can capture leads on your website:
1️⃣ A visitor starts chatting with your AI chatbot.
2️⃣ The chatbot will ask for contact details when:
- The conversation reaches a specific number of messages set by you (e.g., after 3 messages).
- The bot doesn’t know the answer to a question based on your knowledge base.
- The visitor asks for your company's contact details or requests human support.
- OR, if you want to collect leads at the very beginning of the chat, you can configure the chatbot to ask for details right away.
💡 No spam leads: The chatbot is smart enough not to trigger lead collection for spammy or irrelevant messages.
3️⃣ Once the user fills out the form, their details will be sent to your email along with the entire chat log for easy follow-up. You can also view the collected data in the chat log on your GetButton admin dashboard.

How to Activate Lead Collection
Here’s a step-by-step guide to enable and customize Lead Collection for your chatbot:
- Ensure you’re on a paid plan. Lead Collection is available starting from the Starter Plan.
- Log in to your GetButton account and go to the Chatbots section at https://admin.getbutton.io/chatbots.
Find the chatbot you want to activate Lead Collection for and click the Edit button next to it.
- In the chatbot settings, turn on the following options:
- "Collect leads after X messages": Specify after how many messages the chatbot should ask for contact details. To collect leads at the start of the conversation, set this value to 0 messages.
- "Collect leads when the bot doesn't know how to answer": Enable this option to trigger lead collection when the bot encounters an unknown query.
- Enter the email address where you want to receive new leads and chat logs.
- Customize the Lead Collection form:
- Set the Lead Header Message (e.g., “We’d love to stay connected! Please share your details.”).
- Set the Thank You Message (e.g., “Thank you! We’ll get back to you soon.”).
- Customize the field names for Name, Email, and Phone to match your preferred wording or language.
- Add Custom Fields if you need to collect additional information, such as order number, address, or preferences.
- Save your changes by clicking the "Update Bot" button.
